Biodiversity Conservation: ICCN and Congo Rainforest Fund (CRF) Contemplate Concrete Actions
On the occasion of World Environment Day celebrated this Monday in June 2023, the delegation from the Congo Rainforest Fund, composed of Honore Malingane Ntabiruba and Robert Kain, respectively the Chairman of the Board, were received by the Director-General of the ICCN, Milan Ngangay. The Congo Rainforest Fund is committed to doubling its efforts in line with those initiated by the ICCN. This future collaboration solidifies the promises made by the Democratic Republic of Congo in implementing sustainable management and conservation of its tropical forest.
“We have come to pay our respects to the new management committee of the Congolese Institute for Nature Conservation and to strengthen our collaborative ties regarding our previous request for collaboration with the ICCN for nature conservation,” said Honore Malinga Ntabiruba. He added, “The ICCN can expect significant support from the Congo Rainforest Fund through new fundraising methods to assist the local communities living in the vicinity of protected areas in the DRC.”
Robert Kain, co-founder of the Congo Rainforest Fund, emphasized that their NGO would invest more in education and healthcare. “We will try to understand the needs of the local communities. We are ready to invest in education and healthcare. Understanding the needs of nature conservation is very important,” he said.
In addition to improving deforestation prevention and launching awareness campaigns among local communities, increasing tourism in the DRC, the ICCN and CRF will organize the world’s first gorilla birthday celebration and baby gorilla naming ceremony in the Kahuzi-Biega National Park in November 2024.
